Ultra-strong pulling lines for transmission power lines, both above ground and underground, are being exhibited by leading fiber rope maker, Phillystran, on the WireCo WorldGroup booth #2127 at ICUEE, America's Largest Utility & Construction Trade Show in Louisville, Kentucky, 1 - 3 October 2019.
The booth will feature Ultra 12 Dyneema and Dura 12 polyester pulling lines for stringing line equipment during transmission cable installation. Rope strength and reliability are critical during the installation of transmission lines. The Ultra 12 rope provides size-for-size the maximum strength-to-weight ratio, with a break strength at 1-inch diameter of 100,000 pounds. For projects requiring lower pulling strengths, Phillystran offers the Dura 12 polyester pulling rope; at 1-inch diameter it has a minimum break strength of 46,500 pounds.
Easier to splice and stronger than other pulling lines, the Ultra 12 and Dura 12 ropes are available in various colors including standard cyan and orange, yellow, blue, and green, allowing ropes to be easily identified during transmission installation. The use of rope color is a safety feature to ensure line visibility, even after heavy use. Typically, Phillystran pulling lines are available in continuous lengths up to 30,000 ft with short lead production times.
Going to Extremes
Also, at ICUEE, Phillystran is showing its high performance Technora and Vectran 12 strand ropes along with X-Trema line - a twelve-strand HMPE (High Modulus Polyethylene) rope made from Dyneema fibers for crane and lifting applications. The high-visibility orange X-Trema Line has an unmatched weight-to-strength ratio. Compared to a steel wire rope of the same size, it matches the breaking strength at only 15% of the weight.
Betalift SP
On the booth at the ICUEE show, WireCo is featuring industry leading, wire rope manufacturer Union’s Betalift SP – the strongest rope available for crane assemblies, together with other crane ropes. Manufactured to the industry’s highest standards, Betalift SP is constructed with drawn galvanized wires which provides excellent corrosion resistance. In addition, extensive testing has shown Betalift SP provides 25-50% improvement in fatigue life.
